Senior translation students

The students of translation and interpreting of the ULPGC (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria University) have been committed to be the translators of the Gateway Trade Mission in Canary Islands (the 1st commercial mission of the American Trade Chamber in Canary Islands) held in the Sheraton Salobre Hotel. This has consisted in a series of meetings between North American entrepreneurs and the parallel Canarian ones. North Americans look for new markets and new partners in order to build a bridge between USA, Europe and Africa. The different subjects of the meetings were: Biomedicine and telemedicine, Renewable energies, New information technologies Telecommunications, Transportation and logistics, Biofuel Pharmaceuticals, Infrastructure Development Industries, Tourism Infrastructure.
The students dealt with some challenging situations involving terminology documentation, meetings and press releases but there were different activities (for the business officials) and banquets for all the staff that made this mission a good experience.
It has been one of the best opportunities for senior translation students to try their best in an activity hidden in the shadow of oblivion. Now they can decide if they are just translators or if they could be interpreters in this global world which wears the veil of forgetfulness when we talk about the challenges of this age-old human activity.
